Congratulations to Darren King our future General Manager

From Jon Clarke, Furness Golf Club Captain:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Darren King (pictured left) as the General Manager of Furness Golf Club Old Links; effective start date will be early March.

During his 26 year membership Darren has worn many hats on Council (Since 2003), from Course Manager, Handicap Secretary and Match, as well as being Captain in 2015 – this puts him in a great position to move into the General Managers role whilst knowing what makes Furness Golf Club tick, ultimately to move us forward whilst enhancing quality of our services and overall member experience.

A personal thank you from myself to Neil Tippins, Peter Duignan and Eric Edwards who started this process in 2022/23, they created the foundations of this position by reaching out to SME’s within the County to gain a true understanding of what the General Manager’s role is, whilst giving their own time to the cause. More recently a small committee have continued their good work and finalised this appointment.

Furness Golf Club is moving forward, the team on the golf course are working well in all kinds of weather to ensure our playability improves year on year, their work is exemplary and I am really looking forward to see what our great links has to offer this year, Darren will help bring the club up to speed in the same direction the golf course is moving.

The General Managers role will vary from office duties to ensuring all legislation is followed, including Health and Safety. The main objectives are to improve our member experience whilst driving growth through membership and visitors.

On behalf of the Exec/Committee, we extend a warm welcome to Darren. We look forward to working closely with him as we continue to build on the club’s proud traditions and plan for its future growth and success.

Please join us in welcoming Darren to his new role at Furness Golf Club Old Links.
