Winter League

RESULTS

ECLECTIC FORMAT EXPLAINED

An eclectic is run in conjunction with one or more rounds of standard club competitions.

For our winter league application, the format of play is successive gents only better ball stableford with the best gross and net stableford score on each hole being recorded on the scorecard.

When returning your scorecard for the associated 4BBB competition, any net birdies achieved by either yourself or your partner are identified and highlighted on a separate (birdie) record sheet by the competition organiser.

This is repeated for each fortnightly competition until one or more team(s), the winners, achieve a birdie on each of the holes in play on the course.  Ideally this should be all 18 but circumstances may dictate closure of one or more holes.

The birdie record sheet is displayed and updated after closure of each weekend competition for all teams to monitor progress.

Once the eclectic has been won, if time permits another eclectic may be organised.

Please also read the rules for the competition.

Questions answered:

I’ve had a few questions over the last few days about the winter league rules so I’ll do my best to answer them before we start.

Q. Where do I sign up.

A. You put your name down on the sheet on the back board by the secretary’s office.

Q. Where do we pay.

A. Score Cards and small brown envelopes are located again at the secretary’s office by the locker room door. Print your name and your playing partners name on the envelope and put your entry fee into the envelope **Before going out to play** Then put your envelope in the white metal box on the wall. Score cards are to be placed into the big red scores box which will be in the same area.

Q. What’s the handicaps

A. 85% of your registered handicap.

Q. Can people joining on the winter offer play in the winter league.

A. People joining on the winter offer may NOT enter, only members who have played in a minimum of one qualifying competition during 2021 are eligible.

Q. I want to play in the winter league but I don’t have a handicap.

A. Sorry you must have held a valid handicap prior to October or submitted cards again prior to October.

Q. Can we go out as a pair and play.

A. You may go out as a pair but you will need to find another member to mark your card. Remember this is a competition so we still need to adhere to the rules of golf.

Q. Do I have to play off a mat

A. Preferred lies are in play so you have options. Players do NOT have the option of placing in the semi rough – Use a mat or play where it lies (with a preferred lie).

Q. In the eclectic if only a couple of holes are required to be knocked off can we just play those particular holes.

A. No you must play the full 18. We still have Covid restrictions in place and need to keep a record of who is on the course at all times. Clearly playing 1 or 2 holes contravenes these rules.

Q. Can I input the score on my phone.

A. No the scores for the winter league are to be manually recorded on a scorecard and deposited in the big red score card box. On your scorecard you MUST also print the name of one of your playing partner(s) or your marker.

Q. I had no change and the bar wasn’t open so can I just pay double next time.

A. No. The cards will be input over the weekend. If your scorecard is in the red box it indicates you have played so if there is no envelope with your name and entry fee in the box you will be disqualified.

Play well.
